For me chanting has been a life-changing practice on so many levels. I only began to feel truly rooted in a daily practice when I started working with mantras. Vibrationally, I feel like they called me to sit even when I didn't feel like it, and then stayed with me throughout the day as a support. I have noticed that I am more focused and able to hold my concentration for longer periods of time. This is huge, as previously I had noticed my attention span becoming shorter and shorter.
The biggest thing for me though, has been a deepening connection to my spiritual practice. Before coming to the concepts in yoga philosophy and Indian spirituality, I explored many other spiritual paradigms but never felt fully at home. They say that people who find their way to Sanskrit mantras have done this before, and I believe that to be true.
What you'll find in this mini-course is a brief introduction to two important principles of chanting Vedic mantras. The first is learning to pronounce the sounds in the Sanskrit alphabet. If English is your first language, Sanskrit will feel very different as its sounds are formed in specific areas of the mouth, often with the tongue in specific positions.
If you wish to chant in Sanskrit, this is vital to understand for proper pronunciation. The syllables are considered bodies of sound wisdom, and as they are linked together to form a mantra, they are activating energetic patterns in your body as you chant. In order to receive full benefit of the mantra, developing a physical memory of how each syllable is formed is key.
The second is svara, the notes assigned to each syllable as they were originally brought forward by the ancient seers. Chanting Veda mantras is different than singing as there are only 3 basic notes with some variation.
You will also have the opportunity to learn Saha Nāvavatu, a mantra that we recite at the beginning of every class or practice.
Having an introduction to these three key elements, will help you feel comfortable joining a class or practice. Inside the course you will also find a special discount code for tour first course.
