Jai Hanuman!

Inspired by the strength and devotion of the divine vanara (forest dweller) Hanuman, the iconic poem of the Hanuman Chalisa was written by the poet Tulsidas in the 16th-century. This mantra is considered to be a powerful upansana (remedy) for all struggles. In this 40-day practice, we’ll learn proper pronunciation and translation of this popular chant so that you can always have it near your heart for assistance.

The Chalisa, which is one of the most popular and widely chanted poems, was written as an homage, based on Hanuman's role in the epic narrative The Ramayana. Each week, we'll explore stories and spiritual symbology found in The Ramayana, which tells the tale of Rama and Sita being exiled to the forest, leading to a battle to save Sita from the demon king Ravana with the help of his brother Lakshmana and the ever devoted Hanuman.

The Practice

This practice will differ a bit from other 40-day practices that I've offered in the past. The Hanuman Chalisa has 40-verses, so although I'll be releasing the practice recordings in chunks, you could set up your practice to pay special attention to one new mantra each day.

Another difference, is that, while you absolutely can chant it without music, it's often sung, and so for the first time in a 40-day practice, I'll be incorporating my harmonium for the group practice at the end of each class. This is a true bhakti practice, so while we will certainly work for correct pronunciation, the focus will be on the power this mantra invokes in the heart.

During class time, we'll explore Hanuman's origin story and tales from The Rāmayana that are referenced in the chant for a deeper understanding and connection to the universal themes that are brought forward in this text.

The goal will be to set up a steady practice that works for you, taking some time each day to chant, learning the daily verse, reviewing past verses or touching in with the chalisa in some way, chanting or listening.

We'll meet twice a week for class/group practice, reviewing all mantras that you've received between classes, story time, and yogic philosophy and symbolism from the text. Each class will end with a sing along of the whole chalisa. By the end of the 40-days this mantra will be a devoted loyal friend just like Hanuman.

"I LOVED the 40 day Goddess practice!
The group you brought together, the way you fostered the growth and curiosity in each of us. It was great to have the two calls and touch points each week, and the way you covered the material between each was helpful - it was a nice rotation of new and repeating so I was able to really sit with each mantra and each Goddess.  I'm fascinated by the whole world and really can't wait to study even more!"

This practice has helped me on so many levels of my being.  Starting with a place I can go to spend time with like minded people that I trust and admire, the safe space is so nourishing to me. I also feel it has benefited my focus for listening and clarity. The tones/vibrations have helped balance my system, I feel like my body works better. The 40-day practices are filled with the ancient Vedic wisdom that resonates deeply with my soul. The mantras are with me daily and give me a sense of groundedness. I also feel a purpose as I am improving the way I move through life I can share that ripple effect with the world in a positive way. There’s nothing like it that I've found to be so profound.

"The 40-day mantra practice was such a joyful surprise for me. It was my very first time doing mantra work and my first time committing to a 40-day group practice. I felt so supported and so empowered—whether it was that fierce, radiant Durga energy or simply the joy of showing up every day, it helped me realize I am truly unstoppable. Finishing those 40 days filled me with a sense of strength, happiness, and inner spark that I’m still carrying with me."
